IMOA consultant Catherine Houska will present an Architectural Record webinar on Life Cycle and Resilience Assessment in a Changing World focusing on Future-Proofing Use Stage Performance and Resilience Analysis.
Material and system selection criteria are changing. Unexpectedly high levels of maintenance and premature replacement can dramatically increase both ownership costs and the carbon footprint. In a world where human caused and natural extreme weather events are increasing and sea levels are rising, resilience to those risks must also be considered. Unfortunately, during design, corrosion performance and resilience are too often assessed separately. This can result in a system that is resilient when installed but fails when the event occurs due to material or system deterioration. Use stage life cycle assessment must consider material and systems sustainability, resilience, and durability in each project’s service environment. Catherine will draw on trend data, international atmospheric corrosion research, and her metal selection and failure analysis site assessment experience to illustrate a better approach. She will also summarize resources that can be used to assist with assessments and on-going international standards development. This webinar is sponsored by the Ornamental Metal Institute of New York.
