IMOA Team and Committees
IMOA’s member companies and their representatives are the foundation of the Association. Our structure is designed to maximize member input and engagement. Members are invited to participate in our various committees that help shape the strategic direction of the Association and guide IMOA-funded projects. The main committees meet twice a year: once in the Spring and again in the autumn alongside IMOA’s Annual General Meeting.
The IMOA Team
The IMOA Secretariat oversees the implementation of the Association’s Strategic Plan and manages the day-to-day operations and provides support to members.
IMOA was founded in 1989 with the objective of establishing an association that comprises industry representatives across the molybdenum supply chain. Today we are the voice of the molybdenum industry, undertaking valued work led by our Executive, HSE, and Market Development Committees and Responsible Sourcing Working Group. Membership of a non-profit trade association makes good financial sense. As well as bringing the industry together, it is an effective way to share in valuable programs, which help to develop and secure markets at a fraction of the cost of acting individually.

Executive Committee
IMOA’s strategy and activities are guided by the Executive Committee, which consists of a President, a Vice-President and up to 11 additional members. The term of office is two years, but members are eligible to stand for re-election at the AGM.
The Executive Committee comprises representatives from different parts of the molybdenum supply chain and geographical areas. These Executive members bring different industry expertise and perspectives that collectively help to define the strategic direction of the association. It is also the role of the Executive Committee to work closely with the IMOA Secretariat to oversee the financial management and governance of the Association, and likewise key IMOA Committee decisions.

The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Committee
IMOA’s HSE Committee monitors developments regarding the effect of molybdenum (i.e. the molybdate ion) on health, safety and the environment and it commissions scientific studies on the toxicological effects of molybdenum compounds.
The Committee comprises a broad spectrum of corporate and expert technical support team members, whose collective expertise helps members to effectively address local, global and country-specific emerging regulatory issues.
IMOA’s HSE work actively supports on-going access to markets by seeking to ensure that regulatory decisions are based on sound and robust scientific data. Performing high-calibre studies and sharing data by joining forces as an association, saves significant cost and effort by members, who otherwise would need to commission studies individually. The role of the Committee is also to ensure the results of these studies are readily available to the regulatory community and academia via publication through peer-reviewed scientific journals. IMOA actively engages with regulators globally to ensure awareness about and access to our robust scientific data to inform their regulatory decisions.

The Market Development Committee
IMOA’s Market Development Committee guides the projects and initiatives undertaken to raise awareness of molybdenum’s benefits and promote its use across a diverse range of end-use sectors. The Committee reviews and provides input on proposed activities, most of which are jointly sponsored with external organizations. These initiatives aim to strengthen existing markets or support the development of new steels and applications that address global societal needs.
Current priority areas include; stainless steels in architecture, bridge building and structural applications, and drinking water service lines, as well as, high-strength automotive steels and high-strength steels for construction and mechanical engineering.
Drawing on the collective expertise of representatives from various market sectors, the Committee advises the Market Development team with its network of expert consultants on project direction and focus. The Committee reports to the Executive Committee, which is responsible for all major decisions.
IMOA’s market development work is about more than promoting materials — it is about unlocking the full potential of molybdenum to meet global challenges. Whether enabling sustainable infrastructure, leak-free water systems, or stronger, more efficient designs, our projects support the sustainable growth of new and existing applications for molybdenum-containing materials.
The Market Development Committee plays an important advisory role, providing feedback on proposed initiatives and helping ensure that our efforts reflect industry needs and priorities. An essential part of this work is education, making sure the benefits of specifying molybdenum-containing materials, including their contribution to environmental sustainability, are widely understood. Through presentations, webinars, and technical publications, we actively share knowledge and inspire confidence in molybdenum’s role in building a better future.

The Responsible Sourcing Working Group (RSWG)
The Responsible Sourcing Working Group (RSWG) meets periodically to oversee the development of the association’s proactive work around responsible sourcing. The RSWG discusses initiatives that encourage best practice across the industry. More about IMOA’s Responsible Sourcing activity
Responsible sourcing remains an integral part of IMOA’s work programs. The RSWG reviews and guides our work in this area.

Molybdenum Consortium (MoCon)
The Molybdenum Consortium is a separately financed IMOA project initiative. MoCon was originally established in 2007 to achieve regulatory compliance with EU REACH Regulation No. 1097/2006. MoCon now focuses on maintaining legal compliance as the Regulation evolves. MoCon works to maintain and update the technical dossiers, known as Chemical Safety Reports (CSRs), for 12 key commercial molybdenum products.
