Molybdenum and the treatment of disease

Molybdenum is used to treat particular diseases in humans. Wilson’s disease is an inherited genetic disorder which blocks the body’s ability to metabolize copper, leading to neurological problems and liver disease. A molybdenum compound is used to bind copper, helping to regulate levels in the body.
Some molybdenum compounds are also being trialled to treat patients with advanced cancers, with studies showing promising results in patients with kidney, colorectal and breast cancer.
