Metals have been used in natatorium and other pool applications for over 40 years, but there are distinct differences among them with respect to long-term performance. Employing knowledgeable stainless steel selection and maintenance when building and operating pools and spas results in outstanding service lives. Experience demonstrates that no metal can match stainless steel's performance in pool-level natatorium, spa and therapy pool applications. Even if superficial corrosion staining occurs, it does not adversely affect the structural integrity of stainless steel components immediately around the deck or within the swimming or spa pool. Furthermore, the staining is easily removed.
Stainless steel provides an outstanding combination of aesthetic appeal, corrosion resistance, strength, durability, and cleanability. Stainless steel alloys are commonly used for a wide range of indoor and outdoor pool applications, including ladders, handrails, diving platforms, slide assemblies, gutters, and ventilation systems. These components are frequently still structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing after more than 25 years of service.
